Exciting news

I want to just give a quick note about an exciting project I'm working on....
I was contacted by a well known publishing company to read and review a book.  My compensation is 1st the PDF version of the book.  2nd I will also then receive a hard copy of the book and 3rd my blog and info will be displayed on the book launch site.  This whole thing is called a blog host tour.  Until I was contacted by them I had no clue this kind of stuff happened in the blog world.

What do I have to do in return?  Read and review the book.

I'm over half way through the book and I love it!  I'm so glad and grateful to get a PDF version so I can highlight it and write all over it.  Now I know your asking...what book?  What's the title?  Well you'll have to wait until October to learn!!

My 1st ever press release

So I'm part of a weekly teleconference about marketing your private practice.  One of our homework assignments was to create a press release...so I thought I'd share it here...ya know...why not?

Are you having fun in therapy?

St. Charles, Missouri, July 2013 - According to Tara S. Dickherber, Licensed Professional Counselor, therapy can be fun, humourous, and enjoyable, all while creating a healing and transformative experience for her clients.  Tara S. Dickherber is Certified in Rapid Resolution Therapy®, a process that utilizes humor to eliminate painful emotions like anxiety, guilt, and grief.

Rapid Resolution Therapy® can and does quickly clear problematic emotions and behaviors with long lasting effects.  RRT® was created by Dr. Jon Connelly, LCSW, Ph.D. as a method to treat clients who have survived trauma.  Tara’s clients are able to triumph over their past and move forward with ease and joy.  RRT utilizes humor as a way to shift the emotional mind from painful often problematic emotions to a healthier state of mind.  Tara reported that since she uses RRT and humor as a therapeutic process she no longer has to buy cases of kleenex for her clients.  She is currently writing a book on how to utilize humor in s therapeutic way.  For more information on this process visit www.rapidresolutiontherapy.com or Tara’s site www.mylifecoachtara.com

Tara S. Dickherber, LPC is excited to have been the first therapist to bring this form of therapy to St. Charles and St. Louis.  Currently she is one of three therapists in the St. Charles and St. Louis area to be Certified in RRT, and the only one to exclusively practice RRT.  She is very passionate and eager to help take her clients from a place of emotional pain to emotional wellness.  She stated “RRT has taken me from being a counselor to being a transformative healer.”  Tara has been exclusively practicing RRT for the past 4 years and is thrilled to watch her clients heal from past traumas.  Issues Tara has effectively worked with are veterans of war who have been traumatized, survivors of sexual violence and even childhood abuse.

Tara is currently offering face to face 45 minute consultations for $25.  Unlike other therapeutic modalities which are typically scheduled for an hour once a week or once every other week her sessions are scheduled for 3 hours each giving her plenty of time to take care of many issues.  She reports most clients see her 1 to 3 times before their issues are resolved.  This means less time away from work and your personal life and more time to live and enjoy your life!

Live your life

Being the social media addict that I am I come across lots of articles and such.  Stumbled upon one recently about living courageously.  It's titled 5 ways to live life courageously by Frank Niles, Ph.D.

I'm going to just be open and honest here in this post.  Because of the sessions of RRT I have had for myself I live life pretty courageously compared to where I was prior to my personal sessions of RRT.  I have SOOO much less anxiety and fear about things.  Less stuff angers me.  Shoot I belong to a networking organization that I would have NEVER thought of doing before.
So if there are some emotional or behavioral things getting in the way of you living your life with more courage why not give me a call and take the first step towards a worth while investment in yourself!

Now offering

A 45 minute face to face consultation.  These consultations are a way to get to meet and know Tara (myself) as well as determine if RRT is the most effective therapeutic way to resolve emotion issues that are troubling you.  As well as insure that RRT will be a worth while investment towards your emotional well being.
An RRT session is a large investment and you must invest your money and time wisely.  Thus I have created these 45 minute face to face consultations.  These consultations are not for walk ins, they are scheduled a head of time and there is a small fee.
I'm looking for any self investment you make to be a worthwhile one and am looking to find the best way to get you to where you want to be!

Women & success

As I'm trolling the world wide web I find interesting articles sometimes.  Not always but sometimes.  Recently I came across this article- 19 Things That Mean 'Success' For Women  It reminded me of some recent conversations I've had with women entrepreneurs.  Most of them talking about how unsuccessful they were, how they had so much more to do and accomplish.  Most of these women when I looked at them I would describe as successful.
This article just reminded me that what I define as successful is not the same as others.  My practice is not as busy as I'm looking for it to be.  I have a lot to learn about marketing a private practice when I do not take any insurance.  I'm learning to sort through the true experts on marketing and the self proclaimed experts.  My office manager and I aim to schedule clients who will most benefit from the work I do.  That to me is part of my definition of success.  Seeing clients and creating a transformative, healing experience for them.
There are therapists/counselors who will see any and all clients.  But to assume that as a counselor you will have a positive impact on everyone that walks through your door is unrealistic.  Let's face it not everyone gets along with everyone.  The same goes for clients and counselors.  Not everyone is a good match.  And further more RRT is not always a good match for the issue someone may be dealing with.  That's why my office manager and I spend some time on the phone asking questions and getting to know potential clients so we can make a better professional assessment on whether or not RRT and myself are a good fit for said client.
In doing so yes my practice is slower than what I'm looking for it to be.  However more clients are walking out of my door satisfied and making referrals.  That to me is a HUGE sign of success...when previous clients refer their family, friends, and co-workers.
Give that article a read, meditate and ponder on what really defines success for you!!

Hypnosis?

I'm just gonna come right out and say it because I get asked regularly about it....Yes Rapid Resolution Therapy® is a form of hypnosis.  Now I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in a state that requires NO training to be a hypnotherapist at all.  Nope Missouri does not require you to get specific training in hypnosis before you start calling yourself a hypnotherapist.  Nor does it require you to have any other form of training to be a hypnotherapist.  Which means in Missouri my auto mechanic could start a side business as a hypnotherapist.  Crazy huh?
Now I have been training exclusively in RRT hypnosis for years now.  It is the ONLY form of hypnosis that I know.  I do recognize there are other forms out there and have learned about them.  I am very satisfied with RRT and the results I see my clients experience therefore I see no reason to go and study another form of RRT.
Some of my clients on the other hand have experienced other forms of hypnosis and I have been told they prefer what I do.  They describe it as a deep feeling of relaxation with the ability to hear and know what I am doing while in that state of relaxation.  They have told me that with other forms of hypnosis they had NO CLUE what the hypnotherapist was doing or saying.  OK which ever this is what I do, my clients like it and when I receive RRT I like it myself.  And I would describe it just the same...deep relaxation and yet I know what's going on around me.
The fact that I do hypnosis is likely to scare some off.  That's a bummer.  If you have questions about hypnosis or concerns please feel free to call us and we will answer your questions.  You can also click on this link from my RRT friend Mark Chidley who just posted about hypnosis and RRT.  It's a GREAT article!
If you are actually seeking a hypnotherapist in the Missouri area do your research.  As I mentioned before in Missouri NOTHING Is required to be such...no previous mental health education/experience and no hypnosis training!  Be an educated consumer, this is an investment in yourself!

Mommas and Pappas

First off let me clarify I LOVE that families come in all shapes, sizes, kinds, varieties with different sets of parents, kids, and extended families.  So this is for ALL parents of all types!!
A friend recently posted a link on Facebook to a Huffington Post article titled "Quit pointing your avocado at me."  Which quickly got my attention mostly because I love avocados.  (Yes I'm a very food orientated human.)  So of course I clicked on the link and read away while my child was taking her swim lesson for the week...swim away little fishy this Momma is gonna relax and read!
What I read was all about self criticisim and concern that others were judging one's parenting.  Which all leads to feeling guilty and "bad" about parenting.  Well let's put an immediate STOP to that.  Seriously!
The more we judge our selves the more painful emotions our mind creates and the more likely we are to make more mistakes.  More more more.  I know right!?
How about parenting with joy, laughter, comfort and ease?  It is possible.  I am here to attest to this fact.  I stumbled upon Rapid Resolution Therapy® when my daughter was very small.  As well as an amazing parenting book "Screamfree Parenting by Hal Runkel."  RRT rid me of painful emotions that had been haunting me for decades and Screamfree showed me how my own "stuff" can cause me to parent in a way that I wasn't really looking to parent.  (Actually I read ScreamFree first then found RRT...but what ever)
I don't always make the perfect parenting decisions all the time.  However when I make a mistake I clear up my mistake quickly.  And do so with out all that lingering emotional junk that sometimes haunts people for years.  Moms, usually Moms more than Dads, think it's not possible to parent with out "Mom guilt."  It is.  And it's extremely freeing.  In doing so it gives a lot of space for connection with your children and others.  My child is not a saint.  She can have a fit with the best of them.  She observes me taking care of myself when my mind does get overly emotionally and she in turn is learning to take time to calm her emotional mind.  Thus we can just be together usually in an easy state of mind.
She's only 5 at the time of my writing this.  I know that as she grows we will find more challenges to face together.  And we will have to adapt and change through out those challenges, doing so with a mind that is less emotional and more rational is likely to aid us in continuing to stay connected and loving.
So give us a call!  Begin with a quick investment in yourself and your family!!

You can't know

I've been playing with the idea that you can't know what you don't already know and can't do something that you didn't think to do a lot in sessions lately.  And your like what are you talking about?
Well many of my clients come into sessions with me with this "I should of..." idea rolling around in their head.  Most of the time what "they should of" done didn't occur to them to do at that particular moment in time.  And most of those times what is now occurring to them to have done back then is something they learned later.
However this came to play in real life in my life one night.  A friend was upset about a particular situation, that was happening right at that moment.  She has knowledge of the situation I do not.  She has experience and education in an area I do not.  (Trust me I'm NOT going back to school to learn what she knows and change careers.  She is an amazing expert in her field and it's her field to know not mine)  However I kind of got caught in the cross fire and got a lecture about the situation.  And amazingly enough it upset me a tad but not very much.  I instantly realized I can't know what I don't already know.  I'm not an expert in what she is an expert in, the situation involved some odd responses from someone that were new and well odd to me.  I don't have experiences in responding to those kinds of responses so how am I to know the perfect way to react?  I can't know that.  Can I learn from my friend and her expertise, yes.  Is getting mad at me for not knowing what I don't know going to magically make me an expert in that area...no.  Does it make me more of an expert on that topic to be mad at myself for not knowing what I don't know...no.
Bottom line you can't know what you don't know, you can't do something you didn't think to do, nor can you do something you don't know how to do.  Like can you repair an airplane engine?  Likely no.  If I get mad at you for not being able to do that can you then magically be an airplane engine mechanic, no.  And if you get mad at yourself will you then magically be an airplane engine mechanic...no.  So you just can't know...everything.  Neither can I.

Girl Talk

I know I've posted before about Jane Doe Advocacy Center here in St. Louis, MO.  They provide legal services for survivors of sexual and domestic violence and I happen to be one of their volunteers and biggest fans.  Well they've embarked on a new and amazing adventure;

It is a forum/blog provided by Jane Doe for girls, young women, etc to write in with their legal questions and concerns about sexual violence.  Questions are answered by lawyers and licensed mental health professionals.  It is confidential.  The actual link to janedoegirltalk is of course right there!  So go over, check them out, and get the word out!!

Glad to help

So I am a fairly new member of the Women's Power Networking.  I have been taking the opportunity to share this blog on the WPN national website.  Amazingly someone actually was reading my blog posts there and researched RRT and then found a RRT therapist in her area and noted that it was as amazing as I had wrote about and had been very helpful to her.  I am so very honored that my little blog posts have helped someone I don't even know get some healing and positive transformation in her life!

Be a force of change

I've been blogging all month about Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  In this month have you asked yourself what you can do to make a difference?  It's pretty simple if your in the St. Louis area, or surrounding areas you can just go bowling.  Yep it's that easy.  On Sunday April 28, 2013 Jane Doe Advocacy Center is having a fundraiser Strike Out Sexual Violence.  Get a team of 6- family, adults only, or even kids only.  Bowl for 2 hours and then enjoy the pizza party after.  From 4-8pm.  More details are in the links provided.
I'll be there.  Come have fun, if you have any questions about Jane Doe or RRT we'll be there to answer your questions!!  There's still time to sign up!!

Rejuvenation

I'm back.  Didn't realize I was gone huh?  I was.  I took a week off and attended a training, well 2 trainings actually that took up about three days.  The rest of the time I was relaxing and re-connecting with some friends in the business.
Where did I go?  I attended the Heal the Healer Retreat in Ft. Walton Beach FL.  Now don't get too excited...it was windy and chilly in FL so I didn't hang out on the beach and soak up the sun.  I did however sleep well, laugh often, and enjoy lots of quiet time which gave me space to read.
In other words I'm back, feeling better, and excited about the sessions I have on the book for this month!

Uninspired

Yes I'm in a writer's block phase right now.  I haven't forgotten any one just uninspired to write blog posts, make videos for my blog, or write anything else.  It will pass.  I have learned time and time again when I try to force something it only becomes more problematic.  So just so you know I'm just riding this wave of writer's block till I get some inspiration...

I'm late

Well I am very late on posting this week.  Mainly because I have been plagued with migraines.  We all have something right?  I have migraines, they have moved in for a long vacation this week I think...but enough about my migraines.
Overall January has just been a slow month, it always seems to be a slow month anyways.  Not fully sure why.  It just is what it is.
So for this week I'm just going to leave you with this-

Case consultation & RRT supervision

As more and more clinicians become Certified in Rapid Resolution Therapy® I'm receiving more and more requests for case consultation and "RRT supervision."  I'm excited to share my knowledge and excited to help others improve their skills and heal their clients.  It is however staring to take up more and more of my time.
After thinking long and hard about this (yes smoke did come out of my ears many times through out this process) I have decided to begin offering this service for a small fee.  This fee may be per consultation or if one feels it would be a better idea to just pay for a "month's" worth of consulting/supervision we can set a monthly fee as well.
Enough about work and fees...the summers almost over, go out and enjoy the beautiful weather!  And remember if you or anyone you know has been dealing with anxiety, grief, guilt, PTSD, panic attacks, or nightmares Rapid Resolution Therapy® can help.

No coaching

I realized recently that I lost a potential new client because I no longer provide on-going coaching sessions, long term counseling, or something to that effect.  And no I don't.  Why?  Because for the most part (like 99% of the time) my clients no longer need that type of treatment or support.
When traumas are cleared energy is released, that energy goes forward towards improving health all over.  Also when traumas are cleared emotions are also cleared, painful, unhelpful emotions.  When those emotions are cleared change is not only natural and automatic but my clients are guided by their inner wisdom so they are doing things, responding in ways that are both possible and beneficial for them and those around them.
Usually if a client thinks they need coaching it's because a situation happened that they responded differently to than they would have before their RRT session.  So they call me up and even sometimes arrange a session just to verify that they handled it effectively.  It's like all of a sudden their mind shows them two options- respond in a way that's extremely emotional and irrational, or respond in a way that's rational and effective.  And so their new response is different and unusual to how they had been responding...
So no I do not provide separate coaching or long term counseling.
Actually my new norm is I or my office manager follows up with a client, they say their doing well and weeks or months later I get an e-mail or phone call saying just wanted to tell you how great I'm doing so glad I came to see you!  Yeah...I'll take that response ANY day!!

Great googly moogly

This past week was to some extent a very slow week as it goes for private practice.  I only saw three clients total.  But holy cow the outcomes have been outstanding.  Two of those three clients I have actually run into, face to face, and those two clients have gushed about how helpful the work we did was, how amazed they are by the quick and effectiveness of Rapid Resolution Therapy; even telling me about the things they have done, accomplished and faced since only seeing me a few days prior.  Then I woke up the other day to an e-mail from a client that I haven't seen in a few months saying she has been thinking of me and wanted to thank me for the work we have done.  THEN...yes I'm not done yet...I received a text from the third client saying he and his wife followed up with the marriage counseling referral I gave them and that the session went very well and that he was grateful for my help.  (I NEVER expected any contact from this guy at all given his wife informed me he's just not that kind of guy...btw this whole that kind of guy thing is just odd to me anyways, like what kind of person am I...like if I were a product then what section of the grocery store would I be sold in?)
Long story short, if your a potential client looking for effective help, call me.  If your a therapist looking to have a practice/job you actually enjoy..call me, I'll tell you how to become certified!

An article about me from a local newspaper

Tara S. Dickherber, LPC, has worked in the field of mental health for more than 15 years in many capacities – from in-patient psych to private practice. Her passion lies in her private practice, and a little more than a year ago, she moved her practice to St. Charles. Given all her experience, Dickherber’s specialty is treating survivors of sexual violence and traumatic events.
Dickherber was the first to be certified in Rapid Resolution Therapy in St. Charles or St. Louis County, which has taken her from being a counselor to becoming a transformative healer. She also has assisted two other therapists in getting certified in RRT and joined the Institute for Survivors of Sexual Violence as the executive director.
“RRT is a powerful but gentle way to get the mind to make shifts quickly because we are working with the part of the mind that causes emotional responses,” Dickherber said. “Other therapy methods just work at the level of the logical mind. But, I am sure you have realized that the part of the mind that causes emotions does not respond to logic. So, with RRT we are simply communicating in a way that the emotional part of the mind learns and understands things. That part of your mind tends to respond better to imagery, sensory experiences and certain ways of using language. I show my clients how to influence that part of their mind to get more responses they want, and in doing so, it clears the negative effect of any past event that’s been getting in the way of them being at peace.”
Dickherber offers free 10-minute phone consultations
