I am a HUGE fan of this song. I can not listen to this song and not tear up, it makes me think of my clients and my young daughter. I have said this before as an RRT therapist I see the light within the person whom I am working with. Like a sculptor sees the statue through the beautiful block of marble. Many things happen n this world that have a traumatic effect on people leaving them feeling and thinking as though they are damaged (You don't have to feel like a waste of space as Katy sings) That damage that someone feels is only temporary and not the truth. "After a hurricane comes a rainbow." The amazing light that people have is always there; those traumatic events that happen draw us away from that amazing light. Even when drawn away it's still there.
I've had the amazing experience to help a young women, not yet a teen get cleared of being molested a few years ago. Her mother and school counselor are in awe of the difference in her just after one RRT session. In fact the school counselor was blown away at the difference. This young lady had been in the counselor's office every day for the past few weeks, suicidal, thinking about cutting herself, to the point the counselor wasn't sure she could handle it any more and referred the child to be hospitalized. (Don't get me wrong there are times that hospitalization is necessary) When Mom called me told me the situation I got her right in and well you've heard the rest.
When clients come in to see me they have already gotten through the hard part...whether that be molestation, rape, child abuse, death, domestic violence...the rest is up to me. It's my job to ignite those fireworks and watch their inner light shine!
Be well, Be happy-
