Lost in Translation

I was recently sitting at home doing some home study in Rapid Resolution Therapy, and was so glad to hear Dr. Jon Connelly, LCSW, Ph.D speak on the difficulties of explaining what RRT is. A client had noted he would not be able to verbalize what he had experienced. He knew it worked but could not find the words to describe it. And I just smiled when Jon stated that yes the method he uses is very difficult to describe to others and even when you try it gets lost in translation.
Why did this make me smile? Because I struggle almost daily to explain what it is I do in my private practice. As well as what I experienced having been treated by Jon. In fact, somewhat recently, I was having lunch with a friend who is skeptical of the work I am doing so she asked for an explanation of RRT. And of course I struggled and stumbled trying to summarize it and put it into words. Which did not seem to go over well with my friend, who also is in the mental health field. I then tried to explain to her the lasting effects I and my clients have had, still didn't seem to give her what she was looking for. In fact this particular part of the conversation ended soon there after. I left feeling very frustrated with myself for not being able to give her the information she wanted.
Now I know though. Rapid Resolution Therapy tends to go beyond words and gets lost in translation, it's not just me!
