Letting Go

Before I started this post I quickly (and let me emphasize Quickly) scanned my previous posts to see if I already posted about this...didn't see much about it so I'll go for it...
Letting go is a major part of counseling, before I became Certified in RRT.  In fact I remember being mystified by the fact my clients wouldn't let it go.  And mystified why I couldn't seem to let things go.
After training with Dr. Jon Connelly it started to make so much more sense.  Like first off who would choose to "hold onto" like some terribly traumatizing past?  Seriously?  That's like thinking someone who's go a pissed off snake biting their hand is choosing to let it keep biting their hand.  Uhhh no their not likely their flailing around freaking out, shaking their hand desperate for the snake to let go.  And the snake?  Well it's freaked out, flying through the air hanging on for dear life!  (Sorry of your sqeemish about snakes, come see me I can fix that!)
Here's the thing about letting go...Ever been around a kid who's fallen and gotten a goose egg bump on her head?  She's crying right.  It hurts, but it keeps hurting because blood is pooling in that goose egg bump forming a bruise which is causing more pain.  Wanna know how to get her pain to stop.  Get her to let go of that bump, pain done and gone.  Yes I know your looking at my post funny but think about it.  If she can just let go, get rid of that bump it's all going to be better.
Well that's similar to what happens to us when we go through some emotional/traumatizing situation.  A facet of our subconscious mind gets a goose egg bump filling with unhelpful other things like meanings about ourselves and the situations, other situations that were similar to it...blah blah blah.  So just let go of that stuff in that facet of your subconscious mind.  No seriously, do it right now!
Didn't work huh? Yeah didn't work for me either and I'm a licensed counselor.
What did work was being a client of RRT.  Having that well trained mental health professional find a way to update my mind so that my subconscious mind realized all that stuff was done and over with a long time ago, erasing the meanings about that (those) situation(s) and focusing my mind on a path that is still much more healthy, joyful, and beneficial for me.
So you can keep on trying to let it go, or just give me a call and I'll tune things up so that they are working much more efficiently, effectively, and beneficially for you!!

Be well, Be happy-
