Haunting past

"I've dealt with that."   "I've worked really hard to get past that."  "It's in the past and I don't want to look at it anymore."  Yep I've heard all those statements.  Even in the middle of a session, while someone continued to cry about something that happened to them 20 year ago.

Here's the thing, if you can think about something, picture it, talk about it and painful emotions still come up...your past is haunting you.  Sure it may not seem to be effecting you every day but really a facet of your subconscious mind is consumed by that situation that you have already survived and in doing so it's taking away energy that could be better served in much healthier ways.
It's kind of like having unknowingly downloaded a virus to your computer or smart phone.  It slowly begins to effect everything, until one day your like "What's the deal with my computer/phone?"  Erase the virus, and the computer/phone updated and rebooted and everything works even better than your remembered.

For you it just may look like anxiety, anger, panic attacks that happen for no darn good reason.  But that virus is likely the cause.  So if you know there's likely a virus on your computer/phone why not have a professional run a virus scan and then have that well trained, very experienced professional painlessly, and effectively clear out the virus and reboot your system?  Is there really any good and healthy reason to continue to be haunted by your past?
