Well RRT is unlike any form of counseling you can think of. In graduate school I was taught that the way to recovery from the painful emotions was to feel them more, go deeper into them, get a better understanding of them and what caused them. That’s not how I roll now. In fact, not just with me but likely with all RRT therapists, the session is fun, light, energizing, and likely you will be laughing. Previously after a counseling session I was drained and so were my clients. Again, not so now. My clients leave feeling good, lighter, and excited. I leave my sessions energized, and filled with gratitude that the work we did was successful.
So why does RRT work? Probably because it lines up with the research on neuroplasticity which suggested that the way the brain integrates trauma is by the survivor telling their traumatic story while staying emotional present with who they are with. In fact there’s suggestions that reliving the trauma may in fact make the emotional response to the trauma and it’s effect worse. Hmmmm.....well then let’s have fun while we get the brain to integrate the trauma and then you leave feeling renewed, revived, and joyful! Sounds like a much better plan to me!
To some extent RRT is different from other therapy modalities in every way, so much so there’s too many ways to mention here. If you have questions just give me a call for a free 10 minute consultation!
Be well, Be happy-
