Flipping out

If you've read my blog long enough (and bless you if you have!) you have likely learned I get inspiration for blog posts from random things I come across.  Not unlike the other day while I was watching What Not To Wear (yes I have a sad little addiction to some reality TV shows)
Anyways...
Either Clinton or Stacey said to the person getting fashion advice "You are not being objective because it's emotional."  Which made me realize well duh...you can't be objective or rational when your emotional mind has taken over.
Let me see if I can explain that further...our objectivity, rational mind exists in what we could call our conscious mind.  It's a very powerful yet small part of our mind, so small let's just compare it's size to being about as big as a snowflake.  Now our emotional mind exists in what we can call our subconscious mind which is big and also powerful.  Our subconscious mind functions like a goat.  Now ponder this, when has a snowflake ever been able to control a goat?  Never.  Ever tried to work with an actual goat?  They are by far the most stubborn animal I have ever met.  I've dealt with donkeys, ponies, horses, cows, cats, dogs, raccoon, and well humans and goats are way more stubborn than any of those.  So if we're in an emotional state our goat is in control.  How could that tiny little snowflake get a goat to be objective and rational?  Not possible.
Another way to look at this is Dr. Daniel Siegel's hand model of the brain, check out his video on this here.
The cool thing about being an RRT therapist though is that the work I do gets the snowflake and goat to communicate much more effectively so that they work in a way that is more advantageous for you.
So that's my random inspiration of a blog post for this week!
