A life lesson for Mom

Learn from me and don't make this mistake!
Since I bought my condo/townhouse 7 years ago the dead bolts on the front and back door have been a problem. They were hard to lock and hard to unlock. This weekend I finally remembered to buy new ones. My lovely hubby replaced both dead bolts and door knobs. They work beautifully and way too easy, so to speak. Since the previous dead bolts were hard to use I never worried when our daughter wanted to watch TV while I watered the flowers, and besides most of the time she wants to be outside.
Today was different. First it's just been a hectic week, and it's only Wednesday. Needless to say I had a lot to accomplish this morning before I headed out to the office to see clients. Of course today was the morning that Ella preferred to watch the Disney channel than go outside and water the plants. No biggie right? WRONG!!!! The little stinker locked the dead bolt on the front door. The screen door on the back door was locked and ALL the windows were locked too. Well if she can lock it certainly she can unlock it right? Nope, she just would look at me through the front window or stand at the door saying "Hello Mommy!" Once she even locked and unlocked the door knob. Sadly it was so early in the AM my neighbors were either not up or already gone to work. After some time I did catch one neighbor before he headed to work. I only got the voice mail for my husband's office, cell phone, and my parents. So far they are the only people who have the new keys. My parents being pretty smart (they raised me ya know!) called my neighbor back when they got the message and came right over. Ella had a lovely time watching TV and dragging her toys all over the living room. It is VERY nice to have a HUGE front window so I could at least keep an eye on her. Not that I could do anything if she got into trouble...
Now I have solved the problem and IF this ever happens again I will be able to get back in. I also tried to teach Ella what locked and unlock is on the dead bolt, however she told me it was too hard for her to lock it...Go figure!

This is a very informative for moms, yet cute post about your daughter at the same time. I too had that type of experience with my daughter when she was 2 years old.

I ran outside to place something in the larger garbage outside and my daughter was just learning how to lock the doors. She locked me outside and every window in the house was closed and locked. I WAS SO SCARED! Luckily my motherly instinct kicked into overdrive and I talked her through how to unlatch the window so that I could climb in.

I was so relieved once I got in and was able to hold her. That maybe something that you want to try and show her, how to open one of the windows, just in case!

I am so happy that it turned out okay for you! This is just Parental Revelation that we mothers encounter each day!
