I do not come from a family that was all about summer camp. Maybe that's because we lived out in the country with cows, horses, chickens, and a pond thus our home was like camp for all my friends. My very first experience with camp was 5th grade camp. I hated it. I cried, I begged to come home, and I was stuck there for a weekend. Then I vaguely remember scout camp, I was just disappointed that we didn't have horses to go ridding on. After that I was a 6th grade camp counselor and I loved it. In graduate school I was hired on as summer staff at a residential facility for abused and neglected children/adolescents. Again I loved it. So I jumped at the chance to be a counselor with
Camp Weloki. Weloki stands for We Love Kids. And we do at camp. In fact Camp Weloki is the most loving, accepting place I have ever known. It gives me a high to be there that lingers when I come home. I've done their week long summer camp as well as the weekend camps. I have referred a niece and nephew to go, both love it and wnet numerous time. (My niece is too old now to attend) I have recently gotten to see how helpful Camp Weloki was for one of my counseling clients. She loves it and is begging to go back.
Camp Weloki is not your normal camp. The kids get a lot of time to talk about what's on their mind, what's bothering them, they get a lot of positive feedback and support from the staff, and lots of time to be outdoors and have fun. The ratio of staff to kids is amazing, it's usually like one staff per two to three kids. Tim Jordon and his wife who created Camp Weloki are incredible people. Their Camp Director Christina is also great and wonderful. So if your looking for a place for your kids/teens to go and grow check Camp Weloki out!
Be well, Be happy-
