Acceptance

As a counselor I have worked with, and still do, clients seeking to accept who they are and the choices they have made. What many humans truly struggle with is acceptance of others. So many times clients utilize the majority of their session to vent about others and the choices those "others" have made. We all are a composite of our genes, childhood, and the choices we have made. We all try to do the very best we can during the moment we have. Today the word that repeated in my mind was acceptance. Acceptance that sometimes clients are seeking a new path, excited about a new journey, and eager to blaze new trails. Acceptance that sometimes clients are stuck in a pot hole along the way. Acceptance that some want tools to fix their vehicle and others want someone else to fix their vehicle. Although I am not an enabler I do accept where my clients are at the time they see me. I also accept it can be a struggle for me, as well, to watch anyone be where they are in their journey when it's uncomfortable for them.
